Promoting Horse Activites Throughout Southern Colorado
The Black Forest Saddle Club is a non-profit, completely volunteer-run organization that has been promoting the relationship between people and horses since 1959. We strive to provide a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere where families and friends can gather together for horse shows, gymkhanas, clinics, trail rides, and good old fashioned socializing! Nestled against the pines of beautiful Black Forest, Colorado, the club’s grounds sit on almost 10 acres where you can enjoy the outdoors and a great view of Pikes Peak and the Front Range.
The BFSC does not require any dues or membership fees to be a part of our club. Since the club does not have any paid employees to keep the grounds tidy or to run the shows, we require that those who enjoy our events and grounds become a volunteer at the club as “many hands make the work load light”. There are plenty of opportunities to pitch in and help. You can find a list of service ideas here on our website. In order be qualified to win a buckle in our Summer Buckle Series Shows you must complete the required number of service hours and have competed in 4 of the 6 monthly shows.
The Saddle Club has two show arenas. The lighted main arena is 250’x140’ and the lower trail arena is 130’x130’. The snack shack is equipped with running water/sink, electricity, grill, microwave, and refrigerator. A covered pavilion with picnic tables and bleachers allows for comfortable spectating along with a small playground for kids. The grounds have ample parking for rigs of any size and water available for stock.
As a family-friendly venue, we do not permit the use of any alcohol or tobacco on our grounds.
SHOWS, EVENTS, and CLINICS
Summer Buckle Series: From April through October, the BFSC holds a Summer Buckle Series for equestrians and their horses of all breeds, ages, and skill levels to compete in a friendly environment. The Summer Buckle Series consists of Monthly Performance Shows (Saturday) and Monthly Speed Shows (Sunday). The Summer Buckle Series also has a “Practice” Show every or Thursday evening to get the horse and rider ready for the Monthly Shows. Points from Monthly Shows and the Bi-Weekly Practice Shows are accumulated towards year-end awards.
The Performance Shows offer professionally judged classes in Halter, English, Showmanship, Western, and Trail. The Speed Shows offer timed races in Barrels, 75 up and Back, Poles, Flags, and Keyhole. These classes and races are divided based upon the age of the rider: Walk-Trot, 13 & Under, 14-18, 19 & Over, Novice 13 & Under, Novice 14-18, and Novice 19 & Over. You can find the show bills for the Monthly Performance Show and the Monthly Speed Show here on our website. Awards and ribbons are given at the monthly shows. Belt buckles are awarded at our Year-End Awards Banquet for the various overall high point and reserve champions for the season. Again, in order to be qualified to win a buckle, you must complete your service hours and have competed in 4 of the 6 monthly shows.
Every July 4th, we invite all of our friends and horses (and those who are willing to walk along as pooper scoopers behind our group!) to join us at Monument’s 4th of July Parade. It’s always a great time and such a fun way to celebrate our nation’s birthday!
We also love representing the BFSC in the Black Forest Festival's Parade each August.
